Excavator Center Joints — In Stock in NZ
The center joint (also called a swivel joint, rotary joint or turning joint) is what lets your excavator's upper structure rotate freely while still feeding hydraulic oil down to the travel motors. When it fails, you'll typically see weak or one-sided travel, oil leaking between the top and bottom of the machine, or creeping loss of drive power — and the machine is quickly off the job.

What does a center joint do?
Every tracked excavator has one: a rotary hydraulic union mounted through the centre of the slew ring. The upper body can spin 360° endlessly, but the final drives are down in the undercarriage — the center joint passes pressurised oil across that rotating boundary without twisting a single hose. Seals inside the joint keep each circuit separated; as they wear, oil bypasses internally and your travel performance fades.
Common signs of center joint failure
Sluggish or uneven tracking, the machine pulling to one side, hydraulic oil appearing around the slew area, or travel that weakens as the oil warms up. Often only the seal kit is needed — but a scored spool means replacing the complete joint. If you're unsure, send us the symptoms and machine details and we'll point you the right way.
